What is Mendeley?

Mendeley is a research library tool. It is the ultimate, free-to-use software that collates your research content with as much data as you need. What can it be used for?

Of course, its primary use is personal. You can create and manage your research library. However, for a classroom context, it would be great to introduce to your students and have them collaborate in their research.

You can make groups and shared repositories that students can use in a classroom context. The metadata has space for the DOI link, as well, ensuring that your students provide copyright compliant access to their peers through the original access license.

Since the tool works on mobile, browsers, and the desktop app, you and your students can use this tool anywhere they need to during their research and writing process.

How do I get started?

Getting started is quite simple! Head to Mendeley.com and sign-up for an account. Once you're registered, download the app to your preferred hardware or simply use the browser-based version. Mendeley has a wonderful guides section that will help you make the most of the product and its platform. Otherwise, consider applying this tool in one of two ways:

1. Create your ultimate personal research database. Use it for searching, creating citations, and cross-referencing materials.
2. Assign it as a learning experience for your students. Encourage them to keep all of their data up to date and demonstrate how it can help them in their research and writing.
