Microsoft Lens
Microsoft Lens is an app for both Android and iOS that allows you to take a picture of a whiteboard, document, book, etc., and enhance the image so that it is more readable in a digital format.
Lens is a scanner in your pocket.
You can then convert that image into a PDF, Word, PowerPoint, or Excel file. Essentially Lens is a scanner in your pocket.
When it comes to education Lens of course has several uses, but we have found two major ones. First, it is a great tool if you are a professor looking to scan a page, article, or even whiteboard drawings to provide to your students digitally. It takes seconds to scan them on your phone and then upload it as a PDF or other file for your students. Imagine drawing out a chart or writing notes on a whiteboard and then being able to capture that and upload it to your LMS for your students so they can go back to it. Lens is great for this.
Second, it is a great resource for your students if you want them to write something out or draw something and then provide it to you. With Lens, they can write out notes or draw on a piece of paper, snap a picture, apply an enhancement filter, save it as a pdf, and then submit it to you. When they do this it enables you to leave digital comments and grade it all in the LMS.
This one is easy, to get started simply install the app either for Android or iOS, log in with a Microsoft account, and then snap a picture. The app will guide you through the rest!
